'Kintsugi' is the Japanese art of visibly repairing with gold, seen often in pottery. Part of the philosophy of 'wabi sabi', I believe things can be more beautiful for having been broken. Or, as Leonard Cohen said: 'There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.'
Sometimes, I break stuff. Instead of throwing it away, I practice my mending skills and repair it with epoxy and gold lacquer. This means it can be used again, if only decoratively. You can find kintsugi work in my shop and on Instagram.
I have also written about kintsugi and transformative repair, and have done a few collaborative projects that involve transformative repair of some kind.
